The Oclipans

The Oclipans (believers in Oclipa) were, for a long time, the major and dominant religion in Cartica and other Sapiens lands. They believe that their ancestors arrived there with the help of the merciful goddess Oclipa. The story of their arrival and the promise Oclipa made to the Titans are the foundation of the Oclipans’ religion. You can read about the arrival story and the Oclipa’s promise here.

Oclipa’s promise to the Titans is actually a commitment on behalf of the humans (the Spiens) not to harm the new world they have arrived in. It includes two important statements:

A. The settlers and their descendants will preserve the island of Ealios and not corrupt its land.

B. The settlers and their descendants will not settle anywhere else except the island of Ealios.

She gave the settlers rules of conduct, called the Oclipa Orders:

A. For every tree you cut down, you must plant another tree in its place so that you will always have trees.

B. You shall not build a house or dig a mine on land that is good for farming, because from this land you get your food.

C. You shall not hunt the Karmir and the Durmakan, because they are sacred animals.

The Oclipans’ religion has several branches. The two largest are: the followers of Gonya, who follow Oclipa’s instructions literally, and the followers of Andruma, who have taken on the punishment of Nomadism.
