Karburum

The Karburum can be found in the Great Meadow of Gumalia. It is quite common there, although it is sometimes difficult to locate it. It is a parasite, it takes over plants in its environment from which it draws all the nutrients it needs to survive. It does this by sending out long tentacles that attach to the plant and suck the various nutrients from it. These tentacles called Zarums. In addition to its role as the Karburum’s food suppliers, its also serve as a sensory system and weapon.

Despite its green color, it does not produce energy through photosynthesis. It is completely dependent on the plants around it. Therefore, the Karburum is very territorial. It aggressively guards its habitat. Its tentacles (the Zarums) sense any intruder entering its territory, and based on the signals they send, the Karburum knows who the intruder is, whether it is a small bird flying through the bushes, a rodent searching for grains, or a giant woolly rhinoceros that has come to graze. If it senses danger, the Karburum will release a deadly gas with its tentacles. First, a small amount to warn and scare away the intruder, and if that doesn’t work, then a large and dangerous amount that could kill it.

In many cases, its tentacle system is spread out below the ground and cannot be seen. If you come across a concentration of carcasses, do not continue on your way, you may have accidentally entered Karburum territory, retrace your steps and find a detour. If you suddenly smell a pungent odor accompanied by a feeling of suffocation and burning in your eyes, you may have received a warning signal from it and you should move away. Find a detour.
